Native Forestry

Lune de Sang - Federal, New South Wales

July 2020

Paul and Thomas Woltz were invited by the owners of Lune de Sang to tour the property and see the incredible progress being made in establishing a high-value native cabinet timber plantation. Paul revisited the property in July 2020 for an updated look at some new planting areas, as well as future plots being prepared. The owners have worked tirelessly over the past 13 years to turn degraded grazing land and Camphor regrowth into an abstraction of the Big Scrub Lowland Subtropical Rainforest. The species selection draws from the suite of trees endemic to the area, and will become a model for native timber plantations as well as a source for domestic high-value timber. The owners’ pioneering spirit has taught them many lessons in the establishment and maintenance of such vast numbers of trees, and will serve to inspire others to follow suit.
