Orongo Station
Project by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects.
Orongo Station is a 3000 acre sheep and cattle station on the North Island of New Zealand. Nelson Byrd Woltz carried out a master plan for the property in 2001, and in the intervening 20 years the fragile and dilapidated ecosystems on the land have sprung back to life while the property has remained a highly productive landscape. Through a combination of coastal forest revegetation, wetland restoration and reintroduction of threatened species the property has become an ecological ark for the country, a place full of life and hope.
Paul joined the project from the NBW Melbourne field office in 2017, and with the support of the US offices, carried out an extensive renovation of the historic homestead. He has also worked with the farmers, ecologists, revegetation contractors and regenerative agriculture consultants on numerous projects, from establishing native high-value forestry habitat to restoring soil health and function through multi-species diverse cover crops and improved pasture management.
