SO CHILL - Pool and Palapa

Challenging access to the house site at Chillingham required the light-weight, fibreglass swimming pool was delivered to site via helicopter. LANDSCAPE workshop came onto the project to test various program orientations, and to integrate the pool into the existing buildings and site.

Through the use of natural limestone coping and pavement surround, the lightweight pool gains substance and permanence suited to its proportions and position.

The addition of a Palapa, or Pool House conceals the pool equipment and provides a dramatic stage for respite and entertainment with a lush forest backdrop.

Lighting is important, but locations are carefully considered and light levels are kept to a minimum to preserve the secluded darkness, an important part of the essence of this remote location.

The fence is kept low and out of sight, enhancing the drama of the hillside location, and preserving the spectacular views to escarpments of Lamington National Park and the Scenic Rim beyond.
